Mastering the Skill of Question Formulation for Learning and Research
A collaboration between the College of Science & Liberal Arts, NJIT, and the Right Question Institute.
How might higher education and research be improved by deliberately developing the ability to ask better questions? The discrete skill of formulating questions is foundational for learning and research and its importance is often overlooked.
The Right Question Institute (RQI) is a nonprofit educational organization offering a simple, powerful strategy that builds people’s skills to ask better questions and has created the Question Formulation Technique (QFT) - a structured method for generating and improving questions. The QFT consistently leads to the development of new questions that help guide transformational learning and research and has been adopted by an extensive community network of educators and practitioners from multiple educational settings nationally and world-wide.
The Right Question Institute will work with PhD students in the Department of Chemistry & Environmental Science, as well as NJIT Faculty, Instructional and Administrative Staff, by offering a series of workshops throughout the course of the Spring 2024 semester.
The goal of these workshops is to build institutional capacity in CSLA and NJIT to continuously support the development of question formulation skills for both learning and research purposes.
